I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), contributing to the CitizenGap project.
I hold a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Political Science from Tulane University, along with a B.A. from Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ).
My current research explores the intersection of legal identity, state capacity, and democratic development, with a regional focus on Latin America (with a particular emphasis on the case of Mexico). I am especially interested in the political incentives that drive efforts to render populations legible to the state, as well as the institutional and social barriers that marginalized groups face in claiming citizenship.
Before joining the Citizen Gap project, I had written about the politics of natural resource extraction, foreign direct investment, and climate change. For a detailed look at my publications and working papers, click here.
I am also an associate researcher at the Center for Mining and Sustainability Studies (CEMS) at Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru. Beyond academia, I have consulted for the United Nations Development Programme (PNUD) on projects related to the governance of the small-scale mining industry.
